- Montage
- Raunchy
- Narrative(story)
- Performance - band 'perform' the song
- No lip sync or lip sync
- Artist absent - the artist doesn't appear in the video
- Random/weird - the video has nothing to do with the songs theme
- Related to theme - the central idea of the song is represented - either literally or exaggerated
- Hybrid performance + narrative - this is perhaps the most common, there is a story going on, intercut with the band performing
- Intertextual - the video references a classic film/TV show
- One take - the video is done in one take
- Cartoon/animation - the band are replaced by digital or drawn representations
- Humour
- The extended video - the video goes way beyond the length of the song
- Low budget - the video has low production values, either deliberately or of necessity
- High budget - the video is very expensive and has high production values
Narrative and performance generally go together in pop music videos.
