Analysis of Previous A2 Coursework

I have chosen to analyse this video made by two A-Level male students, the song they have used is 'What I go to School For' by Busted.
The video begins in black and white which is quite a good effect, however, I have seen some video where they keep the b&w theme throughout the whole of their music video which to me, is quite dull and uninteresting. Adding colour into the video makes it look a whole lot more lively and interesting.
They zoom in on the main boy character as he is leaning on his desk, staring at his teacher. When the singing part of the song begins they change the video to colour instead of b*w and he begins to lip sync with the song. The camera cuts to a shot of what he has written on his page and zooms as it says "Miss Mackenzie" in a love heart. His friends look over and laugh as the part of the song says "I can't tell my friends cause they will laugh". I really liked their use of story telling here, as they matched the actions of the actors with the lyrics of the song at the time. They do this throughout the whole of the song.
As the next verse begins the second male actor lip syncs whilst looking directly into the camera, this use of eye contact makes the  audience feel more involved with the video. The camera zooms in as he throws a roll of toilet paper at the teacher and then a match on action shot shows the roll hitting her and she laughs, but then the shot cuts to her showing the camera a 'detention' sign.
The next part of the video is the chorus and for this they show both of the male characters with guitars basically 'rocking out' and dancing around the classroom pretending to play their guitars. This is good because in many videos they show the whole band performing together at the chorus, so I think this shows they have a good understanding of the conventions of music videos. Also the boys lip sync throughout the whole of the chorus, which I think makes a massive difference to how effective the video is.
At the end of the chorus they show an editing technique where they have cut together more than one shot of the teacher showing the camera the 'detention' sign, I liked this edit and may try to find somewhere to use this in my own music video.
As the third verse begins they show a shot where the camera is still and the teacher walks past, then shortly after her two admirers run past, clearly following her. We then see a shot of Miss Mackenzie walking into her house and in the background, one of the boys creeping out and following her into her house. As she sits down on her sofa, the camera does a pan round the room and shows a mid-shot of him pressed against her window with his facial expression as 'OMG'.
The next chorus has a really good camera effect, they have the camera set at the top of a set of winding stairs (a birds-eye-view or an extreme overhead shot) and the two boys are leaning over the railing on above the other, lip syncing the song whilst keeping eye contact looking up into the camera. There is a cut and they have moved up the stairs closer to the camera.
The next verse, shows one of the boys playing his guitar whilst singing to his teacher, he camera is showing a long-shot. There is then lots of cuts of the same shot where the teacher writes on the board "You're what I go to school for!xxx".
The end of this video isn't as good as the rest as for some reason they decided to speed it up, maybe because they didn't have enough time to fit everything in. This ruined the effect of the video as I thought it was brilliant up until the last part. They speed up a shot of the two boys singing right until the end of the song and the camera is very shaky as if they didn't use a tripod which makes the image blurry and hard to see what is happening. Also, it doesn't finish with a shot of the boy and the teacher together it finishes with a shot of the two boys dancing round in a circle holding hands, which I think is much less effective than having a 'happy ending'.
